Kioxia Starts Fab3 Construction in Japan to Expand 3D Flash Memory Capacity

The new Kitakami facility is targeting operations in fiscal 2029 as Kioxia prepares for rising flash memory demand from agentic AI, physical AI and on-device AI.

Kioxia Corporation, a world leader in memory solutions, announced that it has commenced site preparation and related work for the construction of Fab3, a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at the Kitakami Plant in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, to expand production capacity for its advanced three-dimensional flash memory, BiCS FLASH™. Fab3 will be constructed on land south of Fab2, with operations targeting commencement in fiscal 2029.

The flash memory market is expected to continue to expand significantly in the medium to long term, driven by agentic AI, physical AI, and on-device AI. Through the construction of Fab3, Kioxia aims to meet rising market demand by expanding production and ensuring a stable supply of cutting-edge flash memory products.

Detailed plans for Fab3 regarding construction schedule and equipment investments will be determined based on market trends. Investment plans for Fab3 are contingent upon government support.
