PM Modi to Inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 as India Accelerates Semiconductor Ecosystem Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi, the India International Convention and Expo Centre in New Delhi. The event will bring together stakeholders from across the global semiconductor ecosystem, including manufacturers, technology companies, equipment and materials suppliers, investors, researchers and policymakers.

Organised by SEMI in collaboration with the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Government of India, the event will be held under the theme “Transform Tomorrow: Silicon to Systems – Building the Ecosystem.”

The event comes as India moves beyond attracting semiconductor investments towards developing capabilities across the wider value chain, including chip design, manufacturing, packaging, materials, equipment, electronics systems, research and talent development.

India Strengthens Semiconductor Ecosystem

SEMICON India 2026 will provide a platform for policymakers, semiconductor manufacturers, technology companies, equipment and materials suppliers, electronics firms, start-ups, investors, academics and students to discuss partnerships, investment opportunities and technology development.

India’s semiconductor programme has gained momentum through the Semicon India Programme, with multiple projects approved under its first phase. Several projects have also progressed towards commercial production, highlighting the transition from policy initiatives to operational semiconductor capacity.

The government has additionally introduced Semicon 2.0, the next phase of its national semiconductor programme, aimed at further strengthening domestic capabilities and developing a resilient semiconductor ecosystem.

Focus Expands Across the Semiconductor Value Chain

India’s semiconductor strategy is increasingly moving beyond fabrication and outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) investments. The broader objective is to establish capabilities across the semiconductor value chain, covering design, manufacturing, advanced packaging, materials, equipment and electronics.

This approach is becoming increasingly important as governments and companies seek to diversify global semiconductor supply chains. India is leveraging its engineering talent, expanding electronics industry and policy support to establish a stronger position in the global semiconductor landscape.

SEMICON India has consequently become an important platform for connecting international semiconductor companies with India’s growing domestic ecosystem. The event is expected to facilitate partnerships, investment discussions and collaboration between global technology companies and Indian businesses.

Global Semiconductor Industry to Gather in New Delhi

SEMICON India 2026 will bring together industry leaders, government representatives, researchers and technology specialists from India and overseas. The event will also connect India's semiconductor ecosystem with SEMI’s global network.

Discussions will focus on the technologies and infrastructure needed to support the next generation of digital systems, while highlighting India's ambition to become a more significant participant in global semiconductor supply chains.

With semiconductor projects moving towards commercial operations and the next phase of the national semiconductor programme underway, SEMICON India 2026 comes at an important stage in the development of India's semiconductor industry.

The event will provide an opportunity for India to showcase progress in semiconductor manufacturing while strengthening collaboration across chip design, packaging, equipment, materials, research and electronics.
