Semtech Expands LoRa Plus Portfolio with New Production-Ready IoT Transceivers

Semtech has expanded its LoRa Plus family with the LR2022 and LR2012 transceivers, broadening its wireless portfolio for low-power IoT, global tracking, satellite connectivity and edge AI applications.

Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading provider of high-performance semiconductors powering AI data centre networking and intelligent, connected Internet of Things (“IoT”) devices worldwide, announced the expansion of its LoRa Plus family with the introduction of the LR2022 and LR2012 transceivers, both now available in production.

The two new devices extend the LoRa Plus family to address a full range of IoT application requirements — from sub-GHz deployments to multi-band global tracking with satellite connectivity — bringing the LoRa Plus portfolio to three production-ready transceivers.

The LR2022 and LR2012 share the same fourth-generation LoRa® IP core as the LR2021, offering backward compatibility with LoRaWAN®, LR-FHSS and legacy OOK devices. The devices feature radio performance with best-in-class sensitivity, with extended data rates up to 125 Kbps for LoRa and 2 Mbps for FSK applications. This throughput enables high-speed burst data transmissions within a low-power envelope — supporting large file transfers including images, audio, and firmware-update-over-the-air (FUOTA) updates. The devices also support use cases requiring very low latency in proprietary wireless protocols.

“Zenner selected Semtech’s LR2012 LoRa Plus transceiver for our Stealth Reader Meter Interface Unit for AMR/AMI due to its superior LoRaWAN performance, backward compatibility with legacy OOK, and support for LR-FHSS enabling scalable satellite connectivity,” said Rich Sanders, president, Zenner USA.

“For our next-generation metering solutions, we wanted a LoRaWAN platform that could fully leverage the latest LoRa innovations. Semtech’s LR2012 delivers exactly that at the right price point, making it the ideal choice to power our roadmap,” added Tobias Knop, team leader firmware development, Engelmann Sensor GmbH.

“With the LR2022 and LR2012 now in production, there is a LoRa Plus chip for multiple IoT applications — from sub-GHz sensor nodes to global multi-band trackers with satellite connectivity to edge AI devices supporting multiple wireless protocols,” said Shahar Feldman, senior product marketing director of wireless ICs at Semtech. “These devices share the same fourth-generation LoRa IP platform and Unified Software Platform, backed by a global ecosystem of more than 500 million deployed LoRa devices.”
