Merck has opened its new Semiconductor Solutions Mega Site in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, marking a significant expansion of its global electronics footprint and a major boost to the resilience of critical semiconductor supply chains. The first phase of the site, covering one hundred and fifty thousand square metres, is now fully operational and ready to support the fast growing demand for advanced semiconductor materials.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by customers, partners, government representatives and teams from across Merck’s global network. The operationalisation of the site’s first phase strengthens capacity for high value materials that are essential to next generation chip manufacturing, ensuring reliable support for customers in Taiwan and worldwide.
Kai Beckmann, Deputy Chair of the Executive Board and Chief Executive of Electronics, addressed the gathering and emphasised the strategic significance of the investment. He noted that the Kaohsiung Mega Site reinforces Merck’s position within one of the most important semiconductor ecosystems in the world and further strengthens its research and manufacturing capabilities. His message highlighted Merck’s commitment to remaining close to customer technology roadmaps and to supporting innovation across the global semiconductor industry.
Sustainability has been a core design principle for the Mega Site from the very beginning. The facilities incorporate smart energy management, renewable energy integration, advanced water recycling systems and circular material practices. These measures reflect Merck’s dedication to responsible growth and to building infrastructure that aligns with long term environmental stewardship.
The opening of the Kaohsiung Semiconductor Solutions Mega Site marks the beginning of a new chapter in Merck’s electronics strategy. It represents both a substantial investment in the future of semiconductor manufacturing and a strong vote of confidence in Taiwan’s role as a global innovation hub.
With its expanded capabilities now coming online, the Mega Site is set to play a central role in supporting the continued evolution of the semiconductor industry and strengthening the global supply chain for years to come.
