LG Chem has entered the semiconductor stripper market after commencing mass production and commercial supply of its semiconductor stripping materials to Amkor Technology, marking the company's first customer programme in this segment and expanding its portfolio of semiconductor process materials. The move supports LG Chem's strategy to strengthen its presence in the rapidly growing semiconductor materials market.
The customised stripper has been developed specifically for Amkor's advanced semiconductor packaging production line. According to LG Chem, the material reduces the time required to remove photoresist and process residues by around 50% compared with conventional products, helping to improve manufacturing productivity and process efficiency.
Semiconductor strippers are critical process chemicals used to remove photoresist and organic residues following circuit patterning, etching and ion implantation. As semiconductor devices become increasingly complex and feature sizes continue to shrink, high-performance stripping materials play an important role in improving manufacturing yields, product reliability and overall chip quality.
LG Chem said it leveraged the technical expertise and customer support capabilities developed through its display materials business to enter the semiconductor stripper market. The company also completed Amkor's stringent product qualification process, demonstrating the performance of its first semiconductor stripper for advanced packaging applications.
The latest development forms part of LG Chem's wider plan to expand its electronic materials business as demand for advanced semiconductor packaging continues to rise, driven by artificial intelligence workloads and high-bandwidth memory technologies. Alongside semiconductor strippers, the company is broadening its portfolio of packaging materials, including copper clad laminates, die attach films and photo-imageable dielectrics.
By securing Amkor as its first commercial customer, LG Chem has established a foothold in the semiconductor stripper market while strengthening its position as a supplier of high-value materials for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.
