The pact initiates talks for a joint venture to develop ceramic materials for multilayer capacitors and related semiconductor component materials, aiming to accelerate materials innovation and shorten prototyping to market lead times.

TDK Corporation and Nippon Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd. have announced the signing of an agreement to begin formal discussions toward establishing a joint venture dedicated to next generation electronic component materials. The proposed venture would focus on the co development and manufacturing of ceramic materials for multilayer capacitors as well as other high value materials essential to semiconductor and electronic device production.

The agreement marks an important strategic step for both companies as demand for compact, high performance components continues to rise across automotive, industrial, telecommunications and consumer electronics markets. With materials technology becoming a defining factor in device performance, reliability and miniaturisation, the collaboration seeks to strengthen capabilities from early materials innovation through to scalable manufacturing.

If established, the joint venture would integrate the companies’ complementary strengths: TDK’s global leadership in electronic components, multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) design and advanced process engineering, combined with Nippon Chemical Industrial’s expertise in functional ceramic materials, chemical synthesis and materials purification technologies.

Together, the two companies aim to develop a platform that can deliver faster materials prototyping, improved process efficiencies, and a more seamless transition from formulation to volume production. Through closer alignment between materials science and component manufacturing workflows, the venture seeks to help customers meet increasingly stringent performance, thermal stability and miniaturisation requirements.

TDK and Nippon Chemical Industrial stated that the collaboration would also support the development of environmentally conscious processes and next generation materials designed to reduce energy consumption and enhance sustainability across supply chains.

The companies will now move to detailed discussions and feasibility evaluation, including the structure, investment framework and operational design of the proposed joint venture. Final establishment will remain subject to formal approval and regulatory processes.
