Infineon Acquires C2i Semiconductors to Strengthen Silicon Carbide Power Portfolio
The acquisition expands Infineon’s silicon carbide capabilities and supports growing demand for high-efficiency power semiconductors across automotive, renewable energy and industrial applications.
Infineon Technologies has acquired Bengaluru-based C2i Semiconductors, strengthening its capabilities in power management technologies for AI data centres and high-performance computing platforms. C2i specialises in software-defined multiphase controllers and intelligent power stages, technologies that complement Infineon’s existing portfolio of power semiconductors and power systems. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, although financial terms have not been disclosed.
C2i’s technology is designed to address the increasingly complex power requirements of AI infrastructure. As processors become more powerful and workloads fluctuate rapidly, data centre power systems need to respond quickly to changes in demand while maintaining efficiency and system stability. C2i’s software-defined approach combines digital control, power semiconductors and system-level architectures to enable more adaptive power delivery from the grid through to the processor core.
The acquisition will add C2i’s expertise in intelligent digital power management, multiphase controllers and vertical power delivery architectures to Infineon’s global technology portfolio. This includes capabilities relevant to Substrate Integrated Voltage Regulators (SIVR), which are expected to play an increasingly important role in delivering power efficiently to next-generation AI processors.
The deal also expands Infineon’s research and development capabilities in India. C2i’s engineering team will become part of Infineon’s broader R&D network, with the company planning to establish a centre of excellence for digital power technologies in the country. Infineon currently employs around 2,800 people in India and views the country as an important semiconductor and technology innovation hub.
By combining C2i’s digital power expertise with Infineon’s established portfolio covering silicon, silicon carbide and gallium nitride technologies, the companies aim to accelerate the development of scalable power architectures for AI servers and other high-performance computing systems. The combined capabilities are expected to support higher power densities while helping data centre operators improve efficiency and reduce energy losses.
The acquisition reflects the growing importance of power management as AI infrastructure expands. Increasingly demanding AI processors are pushing data centres towards higher power consumption and greater thermal challenges, making intelligent power delivery an increasingly important part of system design. Infineon’s move to acquire C2i strengthens its position in this emerging market while expanding its engineering footprint in India.
