Next-generation process delivers gains in performance, power efficiency, and density

TSMC has commenced mass production of its 2 nanometre semiconductor technology in the fourth quarter of 2025, reinforcing its leadership at the forefront of advanced logic manufacturing.

The transition to volume production at 2nm represents a decisive step forward for the global semiconductor industry. The new process technology delivers meaningful gains in performance, power efficiency and transistor density, enabling next generation applications across artificial intelligence, high performance computing, mobile devices and advanced automotive systems.

TSMC’s 2nm platform is expected to offer significant improvements in speed and energy efficiency compared to previous nodes, supporting customers as they design increasingly complex and power conscious chips. These advances are particularly critical as compute demand surges and energy efficiency becomes a strategic priority for data centres, edge devices and sustainable digital infrastructure.

The start of mass production reflects years of sustained investment in research, development and manufacturing excellence. It also underscores the growing importance of scale, yield maturity and ecosystem readiness as advanced nodes move from development into high volume deployment.

Industry observers note that the move to 2nm further consolidates TSMC’s role as a foundational partner to the global technology sector. As chipmakers and system companies race to deliver faster, smarter and more efficient products, access to reliable leading edge manufacturing has become a defining competitive advantage.
With 2nm production now underway, TSMC is not only advancing Moore’s Law but also shaping the performance and efficiency benchmarks that will define the next era of computing.
