Pioneering move positions India on the global photonics and semiconductor map

GX Group has announced an investment of ₹500 crore to establish the nation’s first integrated photonics chip and module manufacturing unit.

The new entity, GX Quantum Photonics Pvt Ltd, will be headquartered in Manesar, Haryana, with its primary manufacturing facility based in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan and an advanced R&D centre in Chennai. The initiative marks a significant milestone in India’s pursuit of self-reliance across optics, semiconductors, and quantum-communication technologies.

Driving India’s Photonics Future

The manufacturing unit will focus on producing Indium Phosphide (InP)-based Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs), powering applications in high-speed data transmission, AI-enabled data centres, LiDAR systems, 5G/6G networks, and quantum communications.

By developing critical components domestically, GX Group aims to substantially reduce import dependency while strengthening India’s position as a global hub for next-generation connectivity and computing.

“The launch of GX Quantum Photonics is more than an investment — it’s a commitment to building India’s technological sovereignty,” said Paritosh Prajapati, CEO of GX Group. “We are transforming India from a photonics consumer into a photonics creator. This facility will serve as the backbone for the digital and quantum economy of tomorrow.”

Investment Highlights

  • Total Investment: ₹500 crore (Phase 1)

  • Facilities: Manesar (HQ), Bhiwadi (Manufacturing), Chennai (R&D)

  • Operational Target: Production by October 2026; full-scale operations by FY 2027 Q1

  • Employment Generation: Over 300 high-skilled jobs in optics, chip design, and process engineering

  • Export Potential: Aiming to serve domestic telecom and data-centre markets initially, followed by expansion to Europe, the US, and Asia-Pacific

A Step Toward Technological Independence

The investment supports India’s broader objectives under national initiatives such as the Semicon India Mission and the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. GX Group’s vision is to build a vertically integrated photonics value chain, from wafer fabrication to module packaging, in collaboration with leading global technology partners.

By creating an indigenous ecosystem for optical and quantum hardware, the company seeks to unlock new opportunities across sectors including telecom, aerospace, defence, automotive LiDAR, and healthcare imaging.

“Photonics is the language of light — and the future of computation and communication,” added Prajapati. “Our mission is to ensure that the world looks to India not just for talent but for world-class photonic technologies.”
