Bangladesh Establishes National Semiconductor Research Centre To Build Future Ready Chip Ecosystem.

Bangladesh has taken a decisive step towards entering the global semiconductor value chain with the launch of the Centre for Research and Excellence in Semiconductor Technology CREST, a national level initiative aimed at strengthening domestic research, innovation and talent development in advanced electronics.

The new centre is designed to serve as a cornerstone for Bangladesh’s long term semiconductor ambitions, focusing on research, skills creation and industry academia collaboration. CREST will work to develop local expertise in chip design, semiconductor materials and emerging technologies while supporting the country’s broader digital and industrial transformation agenda.

Government officials highlighted that the centre will play a critical role in preparing Bangladesh for participation in high value segments of the global electronics and semiconductor supply chain. By nurturing specialised talent and fostering applied research, CREST aims to reduce dependence on external capabilities and create a sustainable domestic innovation ecosystem.

The initiative also seeks to attract collaboration with global technology partners, universities and industry players, positioning Bangladesh as an emerging destination for semiconductor research and development in South Asia. Over time, CREST is expected to contribute to job creation, technology transfer and the growth of downstream electronics manufacturing.

With global demand for semiconductors continuing to accelerate across sectors such as artificial intelligence, automotive, telecommunications and consumer electronics, the launch of CREST marks a strategic move for Bangladesh to align itself with future growth industries and strengthen its knowledge driven economy.
